Week 2 Blog

For my internship project since I am working in a law firm I will gather evidence and forms to open a personal injury case and a workers compensation case. Currently for internship my job is to input the information we have of the client and add it into their file and case index, I then scan important papers and once again input them into the clients folder. The final product is to have all of the cases I have opened and explain in detail step by step what I do. The skills I need to develop in order to make this happen is professionally take phone calls since sometimes I do have to call hospitals, insurances, and doctors for records on the client. I also need to be able to use tech which is not a problem. My project will help the organization by lifting off the loads of cases they get on a daily basis. It will help my co workers work on a smoother pace.

Currently the biggest challenge I face is phone calls, I have a hard time making calls whether its to hospitals or insurance companies. It's something I didn't know would be so difficult for me. This week I have had to make lots of phone calls and face those fears. The calls I made and took this week was a lesson on what not to do next time. I took some time to reflect on why I might be so scared and I came to realize that since it is a professional establishment and many people call daily I feel the need to also be as professional as them. Though this week was my full week there I needed to realize that it was okay to make mistakes and my co workers all started off like me. It's something I have to keep practicing to get better at, I will never learn if I don't step outside my comfort zone.

Before my internship I have always said how I want to be a Criminal Defense Attorney. This something I have always been passionate about doing, during my time at the Law office it has only made me want to pursue that career even more. Seeing what these attorneys do first hand has only solidified what I want to do. Even though the work is very tedious I still love doing it.
